Irada Akhoundova serves as Executive Director of the Azerbaijan Center in Houston TX since 2012. She has also been a President of Houston-Baku sister City Association since 2006.
During all these years, Irada has contributed to the development of relations between USA and Azerbaijan in different areas. She has successfully organized a number of conferences, round tables, art exhibitions and exchanges of delegations promoting communication and business relations between the two countries. In particular, she facilitated the establishment of cooperation between MD Anderson cancer center and National Center of Oncology of the Ministry of Health of the Azerbaijan Republic. Another area where she helped to create contacts is education. Recently MOUs between the University of Houston and different education institutions in Azerbaijan have been signed.
Irada is also a member of Houston Mayor International Trade and Development Council and is on the Advisory Board of the Texas Chapter of the World Chamber of Commerce.
Her background is education, languages, cross cultural orientation and project/event management. Irada obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Baku State University. After completing Extended Psychology Course at the Center for Psychological Studies in Baku, she started her career in 1988 as a Counselor and Language Instructor at a major high school in Baku.
Irada has living and work experience in various countries, such as Azerbaijan, Spain, Saudi Arabia and the United States.
She is married and has a daughter.
